Locum Consultant Physician: General Medicine with an interest in Rheumatology Medicine

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC)

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) is one of the largest healthcare systems in the UK employing around 40,000 staff in a wide range of clinical and non-clinical professions and job roles. We deliver acute hospital, primary, community and mental health care services to a population of over 1.15 million and a wider population of 2.2 million when our regional and national services are included.

Job Opportunity

The shift pattern for this post is Monday to Friday with weekend and on call/overnight work pattern.

Applications are invited for a fixed-term Consultant Physician in General Medicine with an interest in Rheumatology, based at Glasgow Royal Infirmary, with outpatient activity across Glasgow Royal Infirmary and Stobhill Ambulatory Care Hospital.

This 12-month fixed-term post is available to provide consultant cover during a period of absence of the substantive post holder. While expertise in bone and mineral metabolism is a core part of this post and highly desirable, applications from candidates without formal training in this area will also be considered in light of their wider relevant experience, skills, and the needs of the service. This is an excellent opportunity to join a well-established service within a major teaching hospital and contribute to the delivery of high-quality, patient-centred care across inpatient and outpatient settings.

Responsibilities

The successful candidate will work in partnership with clinical and management colleagues to deliver a full range of consultant services across inpatient and outpatient care. Outpatient work will include combined new and return clinics at Glasgow Royal Infirmary and Stobhill Ambulatory Care Hospital. The appointee will also contribute to acute medical receiving, the consultant on-call rota, and downstream ward cover at weekends.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Application Guidance

AI tools like ChatGPT or Copilot can be great for planning and preparing your application, but your answers must be your own.

  • Show us the real you: Your application should reflect your skills, experience, and motivations authentically.
  • Use AI wisely: It’s fine to use AI for ideas or to check spelling and grammar, but don’t let it write your answers.
  • Why this matters: Applications that rely on AI-generated content may be withdrawn. By applying, you confirm your responses are based on your own knowledge and achievements.

Tip: Think of AI as a helper, not a substitute. We want to understand you, not an AI tool.
