This role operates with an on-call/overnight workforce pattern, rotating from Monday to Friday, including weekend coverage.
About the Role
Applications are invited for a 12-month fixed-term Consultant Physician in General Medicine, with an interest in Rheumatology, based at Glasgow Royal Infirmary (outpatient duties at Glasgow Royal Infirmary and Stobhill Ambulatory Care Hospital).
The post is designed to cover the absent substantive post holder. While experience in bone and mineral metabolism is ideal, candidates with relevant clinical experience will be considered—prior rheumatology training is not strictly required unless mandated by local criteria.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver a full spectrum of consultant services across inpatient and outpatient care.
- Lead new and return clinic sessions at both Glasgow Royal Infirmary and Stobhill Ambulatory Care Hospital.
- Contribute to:
- Acute medical receiving
- Consultant on-call rota
- Downstream ward coverage (weekend systems)
- Collaborate with clinical and management teams to enhance service delivery, with a focus on:
- Innovative care models
- Teaching and research
- Quality improvement

Requirements & Qualifications
Essential
- Full GMC registration with a valid licence to practise.
- Inclusion on the GMC Specialist Register (or eligibility via six-month entry period by interview deadline).
- Evidence of Higher Specialist Training (CCT or equivalent equivalent registration pathway) for UK-trained applicants.
- Applicants without UK training must provide equivalent credentials and specialist eligibility through approved assessment.
