Locum Consultant Urological Surgeon

Consultant Urological Prostate Surgeon (RALP Speciality)

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) invites applications for a fixed-term (12 months) Consultant Urological Prostate Surgeon with expertise in robotic-assisted laparoscopic prostatectomy (RALP). This full-time position (10 PA) begins June 2026 and involves partnering with our established three RALP surgeons and prostate clinical nurse specialists.

Key Details

  • Start Date: June 2026 (fixed-term, 12 months)
  • Working Pattern: Elective sessions based at Queen Elizabeth University Hospital (QEUH), Victoria Ambulatory Care Facility, and Gartnavel General Hospital.
  • On-Call Commitment: 1 in 11 call rota (out-of-hours coverage required).
  • Outpatient delivery locations: QEUH, Victoria-Ambulatory Care Facility at Northern General Hospital, and Gartnavel General.

Role Requirements

Essential Criteria

  • Qualification & Registration: Full GMC registration, licence to practise, and eligibility for the GMC Specialist Register.

  • UK-trained candidates:

    • Evidence of higher specialist training leading to Completion of Training (CCT) or within 6 months of confirmed entry at interview.
    • CESR-seeking candidates may apply only after award, for substantive posts.
  • Non-UK-trained: Demonstrated equivalent training experience.

  • Clinical Expertise: Proven experience in:

    • Managing prostate cancer patients.
    • Performing RALP at consultant-level proficiency.

Core Responsibilities

  • Lead and deliver high-volume, specialist urological services.
  • Collaborate with colleagues in:
    • Urology sub-speciality teams.
    • Prostate clinical nurse specialists.
  • Generate and analyse service improvement data for patient care.
  • Meet 10 PA full-time commitments (accessible through flexible working arrangements, where eligible; see Flexible Working Opportunities below).
