Locum Specialty Doctor in Haematology
We are seeking to recruit an enthusiastic individual who is keen to learn Haematology and join our Haematology Team.
About the Role
The appointee will cover:
- B6A Haematology Ward at MMUH Metropolitan University Hospital
- Day unit and clinics at Sandwell Campus
Applications are welcomed from candidates with some broad general medical experience, preferably holding MRCP or an equivalent qualification. While experience and interest in haematology is desirable, it is not essential.
Training can be provided for relevant procedures, including bone marrow procedures.
This is a fixed-term locum position (12 months) with the potential for progression into a substantive specialty doctor role, likely to be advertised soon after.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will:
- Assist with the management of inpatients and outpatients with haematological disorders, including:
- Haemato-oncology
- Sickle cell disease
- General haematology
- Thrombosis
- Cover B6a Haemato-Oncology Ward daily by:
- Assisting in consultant ward rounds
- Supervising resident doctors
- Perform:
- Bone marrow procedures (both in ward and day unit)
- Lumbar punctures
- Attend a full day of clinics at Sandwell Hospital weekly
- Support Career Progression:
- Laboratory expertise
- Clinical trials and research
- Secondary teaching responsibilities
- CPD and training
- Opportunities to attend courses, conferences, and regional SPR training sessions
- Previous candidates in the unit have successfully pursued:
- FRCPath examination
- CCST
