About the Role

The primary purpose of this role is to staff the Lodge, undertake reception and security duties as directed, and serve as the first point of contact for the College. This includes delivering excellent customer care and maintaining a safe, secure environment.

The role reports to the Deputy Lodge Manager and the Lodge Manager, and involves liaison with:

  • Students, academics, staff, and visitors
  • University Security Services
  • Emergency Services

Main Tasks

Reception Duties

  • Provide high-level customer service to College arrivals, including:
    • Staff, students, Fellows, conference delegates, and visitors
    • Assisting with enquiries, advice, and support
  • Operate Lodge telephones and email systems:
    • Handling calls, transferring them, answering queries, and taking/delivering messages
  • Use all necessary College software systems to accommodate guests, residents, and meeting room users correctly
  • Issue parking spaces to staff and visitors in adherence to College rules
  • Liaise with other departments for visitor/resident processing
  • Prepare keys and fob access for College users
  • Maintain the tidiness and cleanliness of the Lodge and surrounding areas at all times
  • Wear uniform during working hours to enhance professional perception
  • Conduct thorough shift exchanges with colleagues

Security and Safety

  • Control access strictly in accordance with College procedures (raised patrols as needed)
  • Be fully trained in:
    • Alarm systems, fire safety, security protocols, and CCTV operations
    • Incident response (e.g., fire alarms or crises)
  • Liaise with emergency services when required
  • Provide first aid (current certification essential)
  • Report faults according to College procedures

General Duties

  • Assist guests/staff with routine tasks (e.g., room/meeting space setup)
  • Keep computer system skills up to date
  • Stay informed on shift/Lodge/College operations by reviewing relevant updates
  • Sell stamps and track battels for students/staff
  • Book punts, sports facilities, and receive payments accordingly
  • Assist with annual bike cull in Michaelmas Term
  • Perform additional tasks as required by College needs

  • Confidence in interacting with diverse stakeholders (students, academics, and external visitors)
  • Preferred qualification: First Aid at Work (training will be provided if necessary)

Terms and Conditions

  • Hourly Rate: £28,687.51 per annum (equal to £16.15/hour), with 39 hours/week
  • Working Pattern: 5 in 7 days (including weekends)
  • Shifts: One of the following:
    • 07:00 – 15:30
    • 10:00 – 18:30
    • 12:00 – 20:30
