Overview

The Logistics and Freight Forwarder is responsible for coordinating and managing international freight forwarding and logistics operations to ensure the efficient movement of customer shipments across global supply chains. The role involves planning, executing, monitoring, and controlling import and export shipments while ensuring compliance with customs regulations, transportation requirements, customer service standards, and company procedures. The position supports multimodal freight operations and contributes to operational excellence, customer satisfaction, and business growth.

Responsibilities

Freight Forwarding and Logistics Operations

  • Coordinate and manage international import and export shipments across air, sea, and road freight services.
  • Plan, schedule, monitor, and control the end-to-end movement of freight to ensure timely delivery and operational efficiency.
  • Liaise with carriers, airlines, shipping lines, transport providers, customs authorities, overseas offices, agents, and customers to facilitate seamless shipment execution.
  • Manage shipment bookings and transportation arrangements while ensuring optimal routing and service solutions.
  • Track and monitor shipments throughout the supply chain and proactively resolve operational issues, delays, or service disruptions.
  • Ensure all freight movements comply with customer requirements, service level agreements (SLAs), and company operational standards.
  • Coordinate multimodal transportation activities while maintaining cost-effective and efficient logistics solutions.

Customs and Regulatory Compliance

  • Prepare and process customs clearance transactions in accordance with Irish, European Union, and international trade regulations.
  • Ensure compliance with all customs, trade compliance, transportation, and regulatory requirements.
  • Manage freight documentation required for import, export, transit, and customs activities.
  • Coordinate Dangerous Goods shipments in compliance with applicable transport regulations and company procedures.
  • Support GDP-compliant logistics activities and ensure adherence to quality and regulatory standards where applicable.

Customer and Operational Management

  • Develop a thorough understanding of customer logistics requirements and provide effective freight forwarding solutions.
  • Deliver high levels of customer service through timely communication and effective issue resolution.
  • Provide accurate freight quotations and transport solutions to customers and business partners.
  • Monitor shipment performance and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives that enhance operational efficiency and customer satisfaction.
  • Support revenue growth and profitability through effective freight management and operational execution.

Systems and Process Management

  • Operate freight management and logistics systems, including CargoWise, to manage shipment activities and operational milestones.
  • Maintain accurate shipment and transport data to support logistics operations, customs compliance, invoicing, and performance reporting.
  • Process freight-related invoicing, cost allocations, purchase invoices, and accruals accurately and within required timelines.
  • Analyse operational information to identify service improvements and support business objectives.

Team Support

  • Provide operational support and holiday cover as required.
  • Collaborate effectively with colleagues, customers, carriers, customs authorities, and business partners to achieve company objectives.
  • Contribute to a flexible and customer-focused logistics operation.

Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor's Degree in Transport, Logistics, Supply Chain Management, International Business, or a related discipline.

Experience

  • Minimum three years' experience in freight forwarding, international logistics, transport operations, or supply chain management.
  • Experience managing import and export freight movements.
  • Experience in customs clearance activities and international trade documentation.
  • Experience within GDP-regulated logistics environments is desirable.
  • Dangerous Goods handling experience is desirable.

Technical Knowledge

  • Strong understanding of international freight forwarding operations.
  • Knowledge of air freight, sea freight, and road freight processes.
  • Understanding of customs regulations, international trade documentation, and transport compliance requirements.
  • Knowledge of supply chain and logistics best practices.
