Logistics Planning & Customer Service Team Leader
Cement & Packed Products Business – Office Based

We’re seeking a proactive and forward-thinking manager to build and lead our Planning & Order Taking team. What You’ll Be Doing
Key responsibilities include:
- Building and leading a new centralised planning and order-taking function, establishing a vision for excellence and driving best industry practices.
- Defining and implementing logistics excellence across processes, technology, systems, and automation to streamline operations.
- Optimising routing, scheduling, and load planning to improve delivery performance and reduce costs.
- Ensuring robust and compliant order-taking processes to prevent contamination, minimise operational risks, and enhance service reliability.
- Collaborating with internal teams (supply chain, customer service) to align transport plans with operational objectives and regulatory compliance.
- Embedding a customer-first culture, ensuring consistent delivery of high-quality service and a Continuous Improvement process to sustain excellence.
- Managing performance of haulage providers (both in-house and third-party contractors) while fostering strong working relationships.
- Driving key delivery metrics, specifically OTIF (On-Time In Full) compliance, to meet customer expectations.
- Resolving service issues and implementing long-term solutions to maintain exceptional levels of client satisfaction.
- Leading continuous improvement initiatives to boost reliability, efficiency, and service standards.
- Establishing and nurturing relationships with hauliers, logistics partners, and key stakeholders.
- Ensuring seamless, positive customer experiences through efficient order handling and transparent communication.
- Overseeing all communications to the Logistics Control Tower and ensuring compliance with SLAs.
- Working cross-functionally to align goals, prioritise tasks, and steer team performance towards regulatory and commercial targets.

What You’ll Bring
Core Attributes:
- A pragmatic, resilient mindset with a structured problem-solving approach.
- Strong proficiency in road transport legislation and industry standards.
- Exceptional communication skills (verbal and written) with the ability to articulate key messages clearly.
- A passion for continuous improvement and delivering outstanding customer service.
- High-level numeracy and literacy skills alongside meticulous attention to detail.
- Hands-on experience with logistics planning tools and systems (e.g., dispatch, WMS, scheduling).
- Proven ability to manage stakeholders, resolve conflicts, and build positive work relationships.
- A customer-first mentality, with a focus on delivering added value and aligning operations with customer needs.
Leadership & Collaborative Strengths:
- Commitment to development, motivation, and leading high-performing teams.
- Ability to collaborate, influence, and drive change in fast-paced environments.
- Inquisitiveness and innovation, with a proactive approach to identifying and implementing process improvements.
Ideal Experience & Qualifications
Proven Expertise (Essential):
- Leadership experience in centralised logistics planning or order-taking teams.
- Hands-on experience in customer service or logistics, with a track record of team management.
- Demonstrated capability to lead large-scale commercial or operational teams.
- Strong working knowledge of continuous improvement methodologies (e.g., Lean, Six Sigma).

Technical Proficiency:
- In-depth understanding of logistics planning systems, routing tools, and end-to-end supply chain processes.
- Familiarity with dynamic routing, scheduling, and load optimisation software.
(Desirable but Appreciated):
- A business degree or equivalent commercial experience.
- Transport Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC).
- Chartered Membership of the Chartered Institute of Logistics & Transport (CMILT).
