Job Description

Wood is looking for a LOLER Engineer to join our team in Northop in North Wales on a temporary 12-month basis with a potential for this to extend to 18 or 24 months. The role is hybrid office-based with an expectation of 3 days per week in the office. We can offer engagements of fixed term staff, PAYE or PSC.

The Role

The LOLER Engineer ensures that all lifting operations are designed, planned, and executed safely and in compliance with company procedures, industry standards, and regulatory requirements. The role involves preparing lift plans, verifying equipment suitability, conducting risk assessments, and providing technical support for routine and non-routine lifts.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and review lifting plans, lifting procedures, rigging studies, method statements, and risk assessment.
  • Calculate load weights, centres of gravity, sling tensions, crane capacities, and lifting arrangements.
  • Assess and approve lifting equipment selection, including cranes, slings, shackles, spreader beams, and lifting frames.
  • Review and approve lifting arrangements, rigging configurations for heavy structures.
  • Ensure lifting operations comply with relevant legislation, standards, and company requirements.
  • Participate in risk assessments, toolbox talks, and lifting operation reviews.
  • Conduct site surveys and offshore inspections prior to lifting activities.
  • Provide technical support to crane operators, riggers, and lifting supervisors.
  • Verify lifting equipment certification and inspection status.
  • Monitor lifting operations offshore and provide technical support during critical lifts.
  • Investigate lifting incidents, identify lessons learned, and implement corrective actions.
  • Coordinate with project managers, marine engineers, installation contractors, crane operators, and vessel teams to ensure safe execution of lifting operations.
  • Review vendor documentation and lifting equipment suitability for project-specific operations.
  • Maintain lifting operation records and documentation.

Technical Skills

  • Heavy lift engineering and rigging design.

  • LOLER (Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations)

  • EN standards related to lifting equipment
  • ISO lifting and rigging standards
  • BS 7121
  • API standards
  • DNV standards
  • IMCA lifting guidelines

Preferable Experience With

  • Topside removal campaigns.
  • Heavy module lifts.
  • Heavy-lift vessel and crane operations.

Qualifications

  • Preferable graduate Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Structural Engineering, Civil Engineering, or related Engineering discipline.
  • Knowledge of UK offshore legislation and lifting standards.
  • Relevant lifting and rigging certifications as applicable in UK: LOLER, LEEA, OPITO
  • Extensive experience in offshore oil & gas decommissioning projects.
  • Knowledge of international and local lifting standards and offshore regulations.
  • Offshore survival and medical certification (e.g., BOSIET/FOET and OGUK Medical) as required.
