Long Term Planning and Engineering Access Manager

Freightliner is the UK's largest maritime intermodal logistics operator, transporting containers from all major deep-sea ports to our national network of inland terminals, as well as a leading operator in the UK Heavy Haul rail freight market. Freightliner has operations across Europe offering both Intermodal and Heavy Haul rail freight services seamlessly connecting European countries and the UK.

The Role

As the Long Term Planning & Engineering Access Manager, you will be responsible for developing and managing Freightliner’s long-term access strategy, ensuring our services remain protected, efficient, and aligned with both commercial requirements and network-wide engineering plans.

Key Responsibilities

Lead the long-term planning process for engineering access across Freightliner’s portfolio. Analyse Network Rail engineering plans, timetables, and strategic schemes to understand business impacts and future opportunities. Represent Freightliner at access planning forums, industry working groups, and stakeholder meetings. Negotiate and influence long-term access arrangements to protect operational performance and customer commitments. Provide forward-looking planning insights for internal teams. Monitor upcoming infrastructure changes, enhancement schemes, and regulatory developments. Produce high-quality reports, forecasts, and scenario analyses. Build and maintain strong relationships with Network Rail route teams and industry partners.

About You

Essential Skills & Experience

Understanding of UK rail operations, timetabling, access planning, or infrastructure engineering. Ability to analyse complex data and translate findings into strategies. Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
