Biomedical Support Worker
Haematology Department, Evening Shift (Fixed-Time Vacancy)
The Haematology Department at NHS Grampian has an urgent vacancy for a Biomedical Support Worker to join our team during nights.
About the Role
This position is essential to our department’s operational efficiency, especially during busy evening periods when demand for service support peaks.
The role involves:
- Providing invaluable assistance to Biomedical Scientists, primarily in sample reception and specimen preparation
- Assisting with inventory management and maintaining strict procedural standards
- Supporting during processing phases for high-volume workload periods
Candidates should:
- Demonstrate a high level of adaptability and ability to work under pressure
- Possess clear communication skills for efficient team collaboration
- Operate with strict technical accuracy and professional discretion
Key Responsibilities
- Strategic hands-on support in sample management and preparation workflows
- Quality checking and basic troubleshooting for laboratory consumables
- Assisting with data maintenance for specimens and critical analyses
- Assisting in maintaining low pathogen risk safety standards under supervision
Candidate Requirements
- Minimum scientific qualification equivalent to NVQ Level 2 (successful completion of such training is acceptable on application)
- Former hospital laboratory experience essential (expected controls-based environment)
- Current Health Board occupational health clearance in preference (self-check policies if necessary)
- Recognised alternative qualifications: IBMS Accredited Biomedical Science Degree Students are eligible to proceed to interview
- Familiarity with UK laboratory standards (such as ISO 15189 compliance) is advantageous
