Are you passionate about supporting young people who need additional guidance to succeed in education? Do you have experience working with students who display challenging behaviour and a commitment to helping them reach their full potential? Are you looking for a rewarding opportunity within a supportive secondary school?

Location: Colchester, Essex

Start Date: September 2026

Position: Mainstream Secondary School - Learning Support Assistant (LSA)

Working Hours: Monday - Friday, 8:30am-3:30pm

Pay: £90-£110 per day (depending on experience)

Job Overview:

We are working with a welcoming and inclusive Secondary School in Colchester that is seeking a dedicated and resilient Learning Support Assistant to join its team. This school is committed to supporting students both academically and emotionally, providing targeted interventions and pastoral support to help learners overcome barriers to education.

  • Provide 1:1 and small group support for students with behavioural, emotional and social needs.
  • Build positive and trusting relationships with students to encourage engagement and progress.
  • Support students in lessons, helping them access the curriculum and remain focused on learning.
  • Use positive behaviour management strategies to de-escalate challenging situations.
  • Work closely with teachers, pastoral staff and the SEN team to implement support plans.
  • Monitor student progress, wellbeing and behaviour, providing feedback to relevant staff.
  • Encourage positive social interactions, resilience and self-confidence.
  • Promote a safe, inclusive and supportive learning environment.

This Learning Support Assistant role in Colchester offers a fantastic opportunity for individuals interested in education, youth work, psychology, social care or pastoral support. What We're Looking For:

  • Experience working with children or young people, particularly those with behavioural, SEMH or additional support needs.
  • Strong behaviour management and relationship-building skills.
  • A calm, patient and resilient approach to supporting students.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team and independently when required.
  • A genuine passion for supporting vulnerable young people.
  • Understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures.
  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one).
