Application Deadline: 10 July 2026 Department: School of Education Location: Bath, Somerset – Sion Hill Campus Compensation: £44,756 – £56,536 per annum pro rata (part-time 0.1 FTE), starting at £44,760 (rising to £55,340 annually)


Description

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Lecturer or Senior Lecturer in Initial Teacher Education with a Primary Languages specialism to join our vibrant, creative academic community in the School of Education. The post holder will be responsible for contributing to:

  • Teaching and curriculum development of the Primary Initial Teacher Education programmes, particularly in relation to Primary Languages.

About the Role

Working with:

  • The Head of Initial Teacher Education
  • Programme Directors
  • Programme Leaders

The post holder will:

  • Contribute to the success of the School in:
    • Delivery of the ITE Partnership Curriculum (Primary)
    • Enhancing the experience at Bath Spa Teachers’ (BST)
    • Student recruitment
    • Leadership of a selected aspect of the School’s operations

Requirements and expertise:

  • Comfortable working in an interdisciplinary context.
  • Subject expertise to support trainees’ understanding of:
    • How children progress in Primary Languages through KS1 and KS2.
    • How subjects connect across the curriculum.

About You

Essential Qualifications:

  • A good first degree in a relevant discipline.
  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).

Experience and Skills:

  • Extensive knowledge and experience in primary languages teaching.
  • An excellent teacher with demonstrable interest in pedagogic innovation.
  • Excellent interpersonal, networking, communication, and IT skills.
  • Secure knowledge of education policies related to:
    • Primary education
    • Training (including ongoing changes to teacher education and the school system in England).

Additional Information

Salary Progression:

  • The salary range ($44,756 – £56,536) reflects potential maximum annual pay progression beyond inflationary adjustments.
  • Default starting point is the lower end of the range unless exceptional circumstances apply.

Role Terms and Conditions:

  • Part-time (0.1 FTE).
  • Teaching days: Thursdays and Fridays. Flexibility required across these two days.
  • Interview date: 22 July (online).
  • Preferred start date: Immediate.
  • Background check required: Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.
