Description
Itchen Sixth Form College is an ambitious, inclusive, and high-achieving college with a reputation for excellence. We are seeking a friendly, enthusiastic, and customer-focused Hospitality Assistant to join our busy Hospitality team. This role is for 12 hours per week working 10am - 2pm on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday. This role is for 32 weeks per year. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who enjoys working with people, thrives in a fast-paced environment, and takes pride in delivering excellent customer service.
About the Role
As a Hospitality Assistant, you will support the day-to-day operation of the College's catering and retail services. Your duties will include:
- Serving customers and providing excellent customer service
- Preparing and presenting food to a high standard
- Operating tills and handling cash transactions
- Maintaining clean, attractive displays and merchandising stock
- Receiving and storing deliveries
- Supporting stock control and ordering processes
- Filling and maintaining vending machines
- Ensuring high standards of hygiene, health, and safety
- Working collaboratively with colleagues to provide an excellent service to students, staff, and visitors
There may also be occasional evening and weekend work to support special events.
About You
We are looking for someone who:
- Has experience in a customer service environment
- Is friendly, flexible, and enthusiastic
- Has excellent customer service and organizational skills
- Works well as part of a team
- Can remain calm and professional during busy periods
- Maintains high standards of cleanliness and presentation
- Is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of young people
Experience of working in retail, operating electronic till systems, or working with students would be advantageous.

Key Responsibilities
To support the efficient day-to-day operation of the College's hospitality and catering services by providing excellent customer service, preparing and serving food, maintaining high standards of cleanliness and food hygiene, and contributing to a welcoming environment for students, staff, and visitors. The post holder will work as part of a team to ensure the smooth running of the College's catering and retail operations.
Key responsibilities:
- Provide excellent customer service to students, staff, and visitors.
- Assist in the day-to-day running of the College's catering and retail facilities.
- Prepare, present, and serve food and beverages to a high standard.
- Operate tills and process cash and card transactions accurately.
- Maintain clean, tidy, and well-presented catering and retail areas.

Skills, Knowledge, and Expertise
- Good standard of literacy and numeracy.
- Level 2 Food Hygiene Certificate or willingness to obtain within the probationary period.
- Experience of working in a customer service environment.
- Experience of working effectively as part of a team.
- Experience of maintaining high standards of cleanliness and presentation.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Friendly, approachable, and professional manner.
- Flexible and adaptable approach to work.
