Lunchtime Supervisor – 10 Hours Per Week (Term-Time Only)

Role Details

  • Position Type: Permanent (initially fixed term from 1st September 2026 to 31st August 2027, may be extended)
  • Grade: SCP 3 – 4 (Grade 1)
  • Hours: 10 hours per week (term-time only, 11.20 AM – 1.20 PM)
  • Salary: £5,680 to £5,414 per annum (£12.85 – £13.05 per hour)
  • Post Awareness: Advertised by Kirklees Council on behalf of the school

About the Role

Boothroyd Primary Academy, a rapidly improving school serving over 600 pupils from the Dewsbury community, is seeking an enthusiastic Lunchtime Supervisor to join their primary school team.

In this rewarding role, the successful candidate will ensure children enjoy a safe, happy, and positive lunchtime experience by supervising in the dining hall and playground. The post also involves regular support for pupils with Special Educational Needs (SEN).


Key Responsibilities

Researching children in various settings, including:

  • Promoting good manners and positive behaviour during mealtimes.
  • Assisting younger pupils, where necessary.
  • Ensuring safety and wellbeing of all pupils throughout lunchtime.
  • Supervising outdoor play and fostering inclusive, positive play experiences.
  • Supporting pupils with SEN, helping them develop social skills, independence, and confidence.
  • Managing minor incidents and reporting concerns to relevant staff.
  • Strict adherence to safeguarding, health and safety, and behaviour policies.

Requirements & Person Specification

Essential

  • Ability to relate to children/young people from diverse backgrounds.
  • Strong verbal communication skills for interaction with pupils and staff.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and child welfare.
  • DBS check (enhanced disclosure required).

Desirable

  • Experience working with children (not mandatory but advantageous).

✔ Enjoys working with children and can build positive relationships. ✔ Patient, caring, and supportive, especially with children with additional needs. ✔ Possesses excellent communication and teamwork skills. ✔ Remains calm, organised, and professional in a fast-paced environment. ✔ Experienced in playwork, safeguarding, or SEN support (valued but not essential).
