LV Design Engineer – Navitas Engineering (Octavius Company)
Our dynamic civil engineering organisation is recruiting for a Low-Voltage (LV) Design Engineer to deliver safe, sustainable, and efficient transport solutions across the UK.
About the Organisation
Navitas Engineering provides electrical engineering design, consultancy, and testing services for the railway and electricity supply industries, spanning the entire asset lifecycle:
- Feasibility studies
- Option assessment and selection
- Outline and detailed design
- Testing
- Engineering support across implementation, operation, and maintenance
About the Role
The LV Design Engineer plays a critical role in delivering high-quality, compliant, and constructible low-voltage electrical designs across rail and infrastructure projects. This includes supporting the full project lifecycle—from tendering to delivery—while contributing to technical excellence, programme performance, and commercial outcomes.
The role involves progressively taking ownership of work packages, mentoring junior staff, and collaborating closely with Senior and Principal Engineers.
Key Responsibilities
1. Design Delivery
- Produce safe, compliant, buildable, and scope-aligned LV electrical designs
- Provide input for tender development, optioneering, and preliminary design
- Undertake design calculations, technical reports, and supporting documentation
- Ensure multidisciplinary coordination and interface management
- Support commissioning, handover, and technical close-out activities
2. Engineering Assurance & Compliance
- Comply with CDM Designer duties and contribute to risk reduction through design
- Apply relevant legislation, UK/EU standards, and company procedures
- Participate in design reviews, checks, and technical assurance activities
- Contribute to Designer’s Risk Assessments and hazard management

3. Technical Contribution
- Support technical studies, investigations, and problem-solving
- Assist in load monitoring, analysis, and reporting
- Apply engineering judgement to resolve technical issues and propose solutions
- Maintain accurate design records and configuration control
4. Project & Team Contribution
- Manage workload to meet project delivery deadlines
- Contribute to project planning and progress reporting
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary design teams
- Support knowledge sharing and continuous improvement

Roles & Responsibilities – Core Requirements
Essential Skills & Qualifications
- Degree in Electrical Engineering or relevant discipline
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in LV electrical design (rail, infrastructure, or similar sectors)
- Knowledge of UK/EU standards and design processes
- Proficiency in engineering methodologies for multidisciplinary projects
- BS7671 (18th Edition Wiring Regulations) knowledge
- Experience with core electrical design software, including:
- AutoCAD / MicroStation
- Amtech / ETAP / Hevacomp
- DIALux / Relux
- ProjectWise
- Right to work in the UK
Desirable
- Progress towards IEng or CEng registration
- Experience in E&P or rail infrastructure environments
- Familiarity with load monitoring and power system analysis
- Contribution to design assurance processes
