M&A Acquisitions Specialist Freelance Ex Finance Director

M&A – Acquisitions Specialist (Freelance)

Suitable for: An ex-Finance Director

Remote: Predominantly remote, but you may be based anywhere in England Hours: Very flexible – full- or part-time (as part of a wider freelance portfolio)


About the Role

A long-established corporate intermediary firm is seeking a passionate and dynamic Acquisitions Specialist to join as a freelancer.

The ideal candidate will:

  • Have direct experience dealing with boards of public and private companies
  • Demonstrate an interest in corporate strategy and the SME marketplace
  • Possess an appetite for M&A, corporate development, or deal origination (though this is not mandatory)

This is a hybrid role, designed for a self-motivated, experienced professional with a broader freelance portfolio who can operate flexibly and efficiently.


Key Responsibilities & Experience

You will be responsible for:

  • Engaging directly with entrepreneurial SME owners and the boards of quoted companies (including creating potential deal opportunities).
  • Delivering excellent financial/operational analysis, database research, and interpersonal skills.
  • Recognising and shaping acquisition opportunities with the necessary gravitas.

Ideal Profile

This role is best suited to candidates who:

  • Are capable of Board-level interaction (preferable if you’ve previously served on either private or public company boards).
  • Possess the financial acumen and instrumental communication skills required to guide deals.
  • Ideally hold ACA/ACCA/MBA qualifications, but exceptions will be considered for candidates with equivalent experience.

The role is highly flexible—it can be tailored to fit around other commitments, whether as a passive income stream (e.g., investments, investments, non-executive director roles, fractional FD work, consultancy) or as part of a new portfolio approach where you seek entrepreneurial opportunities by building a freelance business.

You must have:

  • Substantial leadership experience (particularly those with corporate or boardroom interaction).
  • The ability to move flexibly but systematically—being available as required without the restrictions of a traditional 9–5 office role.

Candidate Requirements

  • Must be mobile and based anywhere in England.
  • Essential to have strong financial/operational strategy knowledge and the ability to influence decision-makers at board level.
  • ACA/ACCA qualifications or an MBA will be highly regarded, though exceptions for self-made candidates are permitted if high-level expertise can be demonstrated.
