Associate – Consumer M&A

A leading mid-market advisory firm is seeking a high-calibre M&A professional to join its Consumer, Retail and Leisure team as an Associate in London. This is an execution-focused and client-exposed role for ambitious professionals who want to engage in high-impact transactions across the Consumer landscape while growing within a top-tier advisory platform.

The Role

As an Associate, you will contribute significantly to end-to-end deal execution across a diverse portfolio of transactions in Consumer, Retail and Leisure.

  • Support day-to-day execution of live mandates, co-ordinating workstreams across internal teams, clients, and external advisers.
  • Prepare key transaction materials, including:
    • Information memoranda
    • Management presentations
    • Process letters
    • Buyer lists
    • Internal committee papers
  • Build, maintain, and analyse financial models (e.g., DCF, LBO models, trading comparables, and transaction benchmarks) to inform valuation work and strategic recommendations.
  • Conduct sector and company research, analyse potential buyers and targets, and assist in pitch materials and client idea development within the Consumer landscape.
  • Participate in client meetings and adviser calls, sharpening communication skills and commercial judgement to foster long-term client relationships.
  • Collaborate closely with senior bankers on:
    • Due diligence
    • Process management
    • Documentation
    • Transaction logistics throughout the entire deal cycle.

Candidate Profile

  • Strong M&A experience (preferably from investment banking, boutique advisory, or Big 4 corporate finance), with exposure to both buy-side and sell-side transactions.
  • Practical knowledge of deal execution, including experience supporting live mandates across:
    • Due diligence phases
    • Valuation techniques
    • Marketing materials
    • Negotiations
  • Sector experience in Consumer, Retail and Leisure is advantageous (e.g., food & beverage, travel, lifestyle, retail, e-commerce, or consumer health). Alternatively, a genuine interest in specialising in this sector is equally valued.
  • Proficient financial modelling and valuation skills, with the ability to deliver accuracy, insight, and high-quality presentation in complex analysis.
  • Confident communicator with strong interpersonal skills, capable of earning credibility when working with senior colleagues, clients, and external advisers.
  • Highly organised, detail-oriented, and adept at managing multitasking in a fast-paced environment.
  • ACA, CFA, or equivalent accounting/finance qualifications are desirable but not mandatory where transaction experience is strong.
