Machine Control Engineer
Field-Based Machine Control Engineer

Overview
This is a permanent position (full-time) reporting directly to the Installations Team Leader (Regional). The successful candidate will provide national customer support for the installation, troubleshooting, service, and repair of Trimble Machine Control Systems across all heavy equipment brands and technology models.
Core Responsibilities
Installation (75%)
- Lead the installation of Trimble hardware on OEM (Trimble Earthworks, GSC900) and customer equipment.
- Ensure accurate site measurement, installation, and machine calibration for dozer, excavator, grader, pavers, and compactors (GCS900, CCS900, DPS900, Earthworks systems).
Service & Troubleshooting (60%)
- Primary field-based service technician for SITECH and Trimble assets, including:
- Maintenance support via on-site call-outs or remote diagnostics
- Technical debugging and resolving hydraulic/electrical faults
- Ensuring equipment meets operational reliability.
Measure, Calibration & Advisory (10%)
- Calibration and recalibration of machine control systems, including:
- Ensuring precision during rental, support, or field installations
- Advisory/consultation on machine integration and performance optimisation
Operations Support (10%)
- Assist the Machine Control Team Leader in planning and executing customer-focused installations.
- Document post-installation testing for quality assurance.
- Support stock/vehicle management and operational efficiency.
Training & Development (10%)
- Deliver operator training on system operation and best practices.
- Train colleagues, dealers, or customers to maintain technical standards.
- Act as an ambassador for machine control technology integration.

Key Performance Expectations
- First-time fix service with customer-centric urgency.
- High operational standards – documenting all work to SITECH UK/Ireland and Trimble compliance.
- Customer focus as the foundation of organisation success.

Essential Qualifications & Skills
Education & Experience
- Relevant college/vocational qualification:
- Mechanical, Hydraulics, or Electronic Engineering (or equivalent field-based engineering discipline).
- Field engineering background preferred, with experience in:
- OEM Dealer/technical operations roles
- Heavy equipment service or workshop environments
- Wholly elseif and self-motivated – capable of hands-on technical troubleshooting.
Essential Technical Skills
- Proven ability to diagnose and resolve hydraulic & electrical issues.
- HSC or safety qualifications:
- IOSH certification
- Up-to-date CSCS card
- RAMS and Health & Safety awareness
- Welding experience (useful but not essential)
- Heavy equipment operation (ADVANTAGE)
- Basic proficiency with:
- Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel)
- Trimble portfolio research
- Handheld device operation (where applicable).
Preferred Knowledge (Elevated Skills)
- Familiarity with construction technology (GPS, RTK, survey tools).
- Exposure to modern machine control simulation
- Electrical or controls-based plant familiarity.
Onboarding & Growth
- Supervised by senior SITECH Installation Engineer during training.
- Full Trimble & site-specific product training provided.
- On-job training until comfortable with the full SITECH technology spectrum.
