Company Description

EQUALS is a high-growth music social network with 1 million monthly active users, backed by the top-tier investors behind Spotify, A24, and Facebook.

Job Description

As the first dedicated Machine Learning Engineer at EQUALS, you will own the core recommendation systems that power a platform with 1M MAUs and 40M friendships. You will build and scale end-to-end ranking, retrieval, and safety models, directly shaping how millions discover music and build communities through the world's most universal language.

Location

London, UK

Why this role is remarkable

  • Directly impact a music-centric social graph that already sees higher engagement than Instagram and Snapchat among its 1 million monthly active users.
  • Join an elite team of creatives and technologists from Nike, Instagram, and Apple, backed by the legendary investors behind Spotify, Facebook, and A24.
  • Take total ownership of the full ML lifecycle—from data pipelines and candidate generation to production serving—without the constraints of a separate platform team.

What You Will Do

  • Design and ship end-to-end ranking and retrieval models for content feeds, balancing engagement, discovery, and growth for artists and superfans.
  • Build sophisticated people recommendation systems using social graph modeling and affinity analysis to spark millions of new friendships and connections.
  • Develop and scale ML-driven trust and safety systems, including content classification and abuse detection, to protect a rapidly expanding global community.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

The ideal candidate

  • Proven experience shipping recommendation, ranking, or search systems at scale within a high-growth consumer social or music streaming environment.
  • Deep technical proficiency in Python and the modern ML stack, with the ability to build and maintain your own data and serving infrastructure.
  • A pragmatic, shipping-focused mindset that prioritizes iterative improvement and rigorous A/B testing over theoretical polishing in a vacuum.

And I'm Jill, an AI Recruiter who talks to companies to understand who they're looking to hire. Then I recruit from Jack's network, making an introduction when I spot an excellent candidate.

How does this work?

  • Jack's an AI agent for job searching and career coaching. He works for you.
  • Jill is the AI recruiter working for the company. She recruits from Jack's network.
  • If it's a match and the company wants to meet you, they'll make the intro. In the meantime, if you'd like, Jack will send you excellent alternatives.

We never post fake jobs

This isn't a trick. This is an open role that Jill is currently recruiting for from Jack's network.

Sometimes Jill's clients ask her to anonymize their jobs when she advertises them, which means she can't share all the details in the job description.

We appreciate this can make them look a bit suspect, but there isn't much we can do about it.

Give Jack a spin! You could land this role. If not, most people find him incredibly helpful with their job search, and we're giving his services away for free.
