About The Role
We are seeking an experienced Principal Machine Learning Engineer to join our dynamic Modelling Team. In this hands-on, technical leadership role, you will be instrumental in developing and deploying advanced speech recognition models, including large self-supervised architectures. Your work will directly support our mission to deliver the most accurate and scalable speech recognition systems worldwide. You will translate research breakthroughs into production-ready services, optimize models for performance and efficiency, and help shape the long-term technical vision of our ML initiatives. Additionally, you will mentor engineering teams, foster a culture of innovation and excellence, and collaborate across departments to solve complex ML challenges. This role offers a unique opportunity to influence the future of Speech AI while working on impactful, real-world solutions.

Qualifications
- Deep understanding of the modern Machine Learning stack, including transformer architectures and best practices
- Expertise in distributed training techniques and optimization strategies for model inference
- Proven experience developing and deploying models at scale in production environments
- Proficiency in Python and ML frameworks such as TensorFlow and PyTorch
- Experience with cloud platforms and MLOps principles, including CI/CD pipelines, Docker, and Kubernetes
- Strong knowledge of speech-to-text or text-to-speech technologies (preferred)
- Contributions to open-source projects or published research in top-tier conferences (preferred)
- Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work independently and collaboratively
- Effective leadership and mentoring capabilities
Responsibilities
- Develop, train, and deploy scalable ML models that support Speechmatics' products and services
- Translate cutting-edge research into practical, maintainable code and systems
- Optimize models for speed, accuracy, and cost efficiency in production environments
- Evaluate emerging ML techniques and integrate them into our existing stack
- Identify and resolve complex ML challenges across various projects and teams
- Establish and enforce best practices for code quality, model lifecycle management, and deployment processes
- Mentor and guide engineering team members to foster technical excellence and innovation
- Contribute to defining the company's long-term ML technical vision and strategy
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless integration of ML solutions into products
