Basic Function
Responsible for loading and unloading Cans and running the Retorts in accordance with company procedures and regulations, while maintaining excellent food Safety, Health & Safety Practices.
Hours Of Work
Sunday to Friday working a 40-hour week with a 1 x 30-minute paid break daily,
3 shift patterns:
- 06.00 to 14.00
- 22:00 to 06:00
- 14.00 to 22.00
Key Duties
- Follow health and safety policy and procedures, leading by example contributing to a positive safety culture.
- Maintain high standards of quality and GMP throughout the preparation process.
- Comply with company’s policies and vision.
- Physical ability required to load/unload the machine.
- Adhere to all packaging, material handling and labelling legislation requirements.
- Update SIC boards in line with terms of reference.
Machine Operative Responsibilities
- Must have FLT licence or extensive experience operating one
- Communicate effectively with Co-Workers, Managers and other departments to ensure the effective running of the production operation.
- Maintain high standards of cleanliness within the area.
- Ensure compliance with health and safety legislation.
- Undertaking training required to carry out the duties of the post and enhance your own personal development.
- Perform any reasonable request given by the management team.

General Responsibilities
- Liaising Can Filler operators to ensure efficient workflow.
- Ensuring the machine is running correctly and safely.
- Loading/unloading retorts and send to packing and warehouse.
- Loading recipes into Retort control panels
- Monitoring retorts through sterilisation and cooling
- Checking product conformity and collecting sample cans for Laboratory
- Complete all paperwork in for traceability and CCP controls, Ensure that all completed production paperwork and documentation is correctly, clearly and accurately completed.
- Report any non-conformances to line manager or technical any non-conformities
- Perform any reasonable request as given by management
- Remove any defective products or materials, ensure they are clearly labelled and reported to the Team Leader, Department Manager and Technical.
- Ensure that you only operate equipment, that you have been trained and signed off to use in accordance with SOP training data

Additional Responsibilities
In common with all other personnel within United Pet Foods, the Job Holder is required to adhere to the Company’s policies on Safety, Hygiene and good housekeeping. Specifically:
- To take reasonable care for the health and safety of himself/herself and that of other persons who may be affected by his/her acts or omissions;
- To co-operate regarding any duty or requirement imposed on the company, or on any individual by or under any of the relevant statutory provisions, so far as is necessary, to enable that duty or requirement to be performed or complied with;
- To report to his/her immediate manager any hazard which may be discovered at, or in the vicinity of, the place of work.
- To safeguard the quality, legality and safety of the product at all times.
Health And Safety Duties
- Maintaining H&S and hygiene standards in accordance with Company rules and regulations.
- Ensuring that all staff and visitors in the department always wear appropriate PPE.
