Packing Operator Position

Shift Schedule

  • 3-shift rotation (1 week: days | 1 week: afternoons | 1 week: nights)

Packing and processing of Tate & Lyle and branded products under strict compliance protocols.

Key Objectives

The role supports operations across 14 packaging lines, managing a high-volume, complex operational environment with the following critical KPIs:

  • Annual throughput: ~24,000 tonnes of sugar base products (global distribution)
  • Syrup products: ~30 million units annually
  • Dry products (packets): ~4,000 tonnes of small-pack sugar and sweetener products/year

Detailed Responsibilities

  • Operate plant equipment in compliance with SHEQ (Safety, Health, Environment & Quality) standards
  • Meet production & OEE targets while minimising redundant waste via strict specifications
  • Ensure adherence to BRC and customer standards with accurate tracking of operational data
  • Maintain an in-depth operational understanding of Plaistow plant processes
  • Manage concessions and traceability data for quality assurance

Essential Capabilities

  • Teamwork & autonomy: Ability to work both independently and collaboratively when necessary
  • Forklift experience (FLT) preferred
  • Self-motivated with a desire for professional and process development
  • Strong computer proficiencies: Familiarity with Microsoft Word & Excel
  • Competent literacy and numeracy levels
  • Able to provide basic cover for Team Leaders/Supervisors during holidays/shift emergencies

  • Hands-on experience in packing/production environments
  • Detailed knowledge of complex packing and process automation systems

Educational Requirements

  • Equivalent to GCSEs in English, Mathematics, and Science
