Howdens is recruiting a Finisher/Machine Operator
Howdens is recruiting a Finisher/Machine Operator to join our team at Howdens Work Surfaces, our solid surfaces production facility in Holme-on-Spalding-Moor, East Yorkshire.
This is a hands-on role where you'll be responsible for grinding and polishing Dekton and quartz worktops to achieve a high-quality finish using portable grinding and polishing tools. As part of the finishing process, you will work in a wet production environment where water is used throughout the polishing operation.
Pay Rate
You'll join Howdens on Band C during your initial training period. Once you've successfully completed your training, you'll progress to Band B, with a corresponding increase in pay.
- Band C: £35,786.40 per annum + Shift Allowances £3052.24 per annum
- Band B: £43,696.64 per annum + Shift Allowances £3052.24 per annum
Opportunities for overtime
Two-week rotating shift pattern:
Week 1
- Monday to Friday: 5:45am – 2:00pm
Week 2
- Monday to Friday: 1:45pm – 10:00pm
What Will You Be Doing as a Finisher:
As a Finisher, you'll play a key role in ensuring our products meet the high-quality standards our customers expect. Your responsibilities will include:
- Operating finishing machinery and equipment safely and efficiently
- Sanding, inspecting, and preparing products to achieve the required finish
- Carrying out quality checks to identify and resolve any defects
- Following production schedules and meeting output targets
- Maintaining a clean, organised, and safe working environment
- Working collaboratively with colleagues across the manufacturing process to ensure products are completed on time

What Do You Need to Qualify:
We're looking for reliable, motivated individuals who take pride in producing quality work. To be successful in this role, you'll ideally have:
- Previous experience in a manufacturing, production, or factory environment
- A strong attention to detail and commitment to quality
- The ability to work safely and follow established processes and procedures
- Good communication and teamwork skills
- A positive attitude and willingness to learn new skills
