We are recruiting Machine Operators
We are recruiting Machine Operators to join our team based at Howdens Work Surfaces, our solid surfaces production facility in Holme upon Spalding Moor, East Yorkshire. These roles will enable us to deliver our forecasted growth and extend our service to our customers.
In this role, you will be responsible for:
- The production of solid surfaces by setting up, monitoring, and performing quality checks on saws, polishing machines, and CNC machines, in accordance with current standard operating procedures and health and safety processes.
Pay Rate:
You'll join Howdens on Band C during your initial training period. Once you've successfully completed your training, you'll progress to Band B, with a corresponding increase in pay.
Band C: £35,786.40 per annum + Shift Allowances £3052.24 per annum
Band B: £43,696.64 per annum + Shift Allowances £3052.24 per annum
Opportunities for overtime
Two-week rotating shift pattern:
Week 1
- Monday to Friday: 5:45am – 2:00pm
Week 2
- Monday to Friday: 1:45pm – 10:00pm

What you’ll be doing as a Machine Operator:
- Performing machine pre-use safety checks and setting up the machine in the allocated time frame using the specific SOP
- Continuous monitoring of the machine during production
- Performing minor adjustments when required and ensuring the area is maintained to the agreed housekeeping standards
- Planning and organising tooling and equipment to operate the machine safely, effectively and efficiently in line with the production plan
What we’re looking for:
- Previous experience of operating machinery – CNC experience preferred
- Experience of working within a demanding manufacturing environment with a short lead time
- Diagnostic and problem-solving skills and a continuous improvement approach to continually seek ways to improve our processes
