Clinical Psychologist – Cancer Psychological Care Team
The Cancer Psychological Care Team officially launched in 2022, delivering outpatient specialist psychological assessment and formulation-based interventions for:
- Patients undergoing cancer treatment at King’s College Hospital
- Their family members and carers
Our care model is rooted in compassion, underpinning support for patients, MDT colleagues, and the team itself. The service encompasses multiple evidence-based approaches, including:
- CFT (Compassion-Focused Therapy)
- ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy)
- CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy)
- Narrative Therapy
- EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing)
As an established but growing service, we are currently leading several innovative projects:
- EDI (Equality, Diversity & Inclusion) initiatives
- Formulation-based practice
- Patient involvement programmes
- Expanding access to psychological care
- Developing psychoeducational workshops
- Training non-cancer specialists in primary care psychology
- Enhancing staff psychological consultation for complex cases

Key Role Objectives
You will join a collaborative, supportive team comprising:
- 1 Band 7 Practitioner Psychologist colleague
- 3 Band 8a Highly Specialist Practitioner Psychologists
- 1 Assistant Psychologist
- Trainee Clinical Psychologists
- 1 Band 8b Principal Practitioner Psychologist (Service Lead)
- Dedicated Medical Secretary
- Plus wider multidisciplinary psychologists and psychotherapists across King’s
Priorities Include:
✔ Timely psychological assessment and therapy, tailored to meet individual needs throughout—and beyond—the cancer journey. ✔ Collaborating with:
- Cancer tumour group leaders
- MDMs (Multidisciplinary Meetings)
- Secondary and primary care rehabilitation services
- Referral partners to ensure continuity and culturally appropriate care ✔ Facilitating reflective practice for non-qualified staff via group sessions. ✔ Supervising MDT colleagues to support their professional development. ✔ Training and mentoring staff across King’s, enhancing their ability to deliver person-centred psychological care for cancer patients.
