Position Summary

An exciting permanent opportunity has arisen for a:

📌 Macmillan Clinical Nurse Specialist (Upper Gastrointestinal – UGI) at University Hospital Crosshouse


Key Details

Hours & Contract

  • 22.5 hours per week (part-time)
  • From 1 April 2026, NHS Agenda for Change staff in Scotland will work 36 hours for full-time roles (prorated for part-time), with no loss of earnings.

Essential Requirement

🚗 UK driving licence is mandatory for this role.


What You’ll Do

As the Macmillan Clinical Nurse Specialist (UGI), you will:

  • Provide holistic care and support to patients and their families diagnosed with upper gastrointestinal cancer.
  • Offer specialist nursing advice and expertise throughout the patient journey — from diagnosis to end-of-life care.
  • Support patients in discussion around:
    • Medical interventions (surgery, chemotherapy, radiotherapy)
    • Symptom management
    • Emotional/psychological support
    • End-of-life planning
  • Act as a keyworker, facilitating coordinated care across the multidisciplinary team.
  • This role is ideal for a qualified nurse aiming to further develop their skills and facilitate career progression.

Key Requirements & Qualifications

Experience & Skills

  • Extensive experience in oncology/gastrointestinal patient care.
  • Proven skills in advanced communication, patient advocacy, and relationship-building with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Demonstrable commitment to high-quality patient-centred care.
  • Willingness and capability to undertake (or retain) a Post-Graduate Certificate relevant to advanced clinical practice.
