Manager: Macmillan Cancer Support Workers (MCSW)
About the Role
As the lead for a team of Macmillan Cancer Support Workers (MCSW), the post-holder will act as a line-manager to the team and contribute to processes ensuring the delivery of key departmental outcomes. The role involves overseeing administrative workflows to support the call centre and personalised care activities effectively.
The post-holder is responsible for:
- Ensuring calls are centrally managed, answered promptly and accurately, and escalated to the relevant clinician(s) promptly.
- Maintaining and updating patient records on EPIC and My Care Plan platforms.
- Supporting national standards of care, particularly aligning with NHSE’s personalised care requirements, with escalations following agreed standard operating procedures (SOPs) and cancer team processes.
This dynamic and varied role requires excelent time management and planning skills, with potential for development over time to meet evolving service demands.

- Workload distribution across the MCSW team to ensure full cross-coverage.
- Providing training for MCSWs to ensure high-quality information provision and local or digital signposting to support services.
- Supporting MCSWs in helping patients navigate healthcare systems, including coordinating access to care and support from diagnosis through treatment and beyond.
- Ensuring EPIC training is delivered for scheduling clinic appointments by all relevant MCSWs.
- Developing Operational Policies to govern the management of administrative calls and defining escalation pathways for timely clinical issue resolution.
- Ensuring key elements of personalised care are reinforced, including setting up Holistic Needs Assessment (eNHA).
- Collating and analysing monthly MCSW activity data.
