Senior Clinical Nurse Specialist – Macmillan Upper GI Cancer (Whipps Cross University Hospital), Full-time
About the Role
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Gastroenterology Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) team at Whipps Cross University Hospital (part of Barts Health NHS Trust) as a Full-time Macmillan Upper GI Cancer CNS.
This role is ideal for an experienced, highly motivated Clinical Nurse Specialist with strong organisational skills, able to work autonomously while contributing effectively to a multidisciplinary team (MDT).
You will support patients across the entire upper GI cancer pathway, fostering collaborative working relationships essential for delivering exceptional care and support. Leadership, professionalism, and dedication to patient welfare are core to this role.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide expert clinical care, advice, and guidance to patients with upper GI and hepatobiliary cancers, tailored to their needs throughout their entire cancer pathway (diagnosis, treatment, rehabilitation, and palliative care).
- Act as a clinical lead for Nurse-Led Clinics, managing new-onset jaundice, upper GI cancer, hepatobiliary malignancies, and post-operative upper GI surgical patients.
- Lead symptom management, including emotional and psychological support, for patients and their carers, especially during distressing or complex situations.
- Influence patient care through clinical practice, leadership, education, research, audit, and professional activities—aligning with corporate/NHS objectives and clinical governance frameworks.
- Serve as a teacher and educator for both staff and patients, promoting best clinical practice.
- Develop, implement, and audit/improve the clinical nurse specialist service for upper GI and hepatobiliary cancers, ensuring seamless inpatient and outpatient care.
- Work within a supportive, established Gastroenterology Specialist Nursing team, contributing to a culture of excellence.

Eligibility & Key Competencies
Applicants must have:
- Strong experience as a Clinical Nurse Specialist, preferably with focus in gastroenterology, hepatobiliary nurse care, or oncology.
- Demonstrable autonomy in decision-making and ability to manage complex workloads.
- Proficiency in delivering compassionate, evidence-based care tailored to patient needs.
- Teaching/educational skills for staff and patients.
