About the Company
CCL Energy Group is one of the UK's leading distributors of renewable energy products, supplying solar panels, battery storage systems, and associated electrical equipment to trade installers and consumers nationwide. As the clean energy sector grows at pace, so does our ambition to build a world class digital operation that matches the quality of our products and the scale of our growth plans.
Our ecommerce platform is at the centre of how we trade and we are investing significantly in its development. We are now looking for a skilled and motivated Magento 2 Developer to join our Glasgow-based technology team and play a pivotal role in shaping the future of our digital infrastructure.
About the Role
This is an exciting opportunity for a technically strong Magento 2 Developer to join a growing development team working on a live, commercially important ecommerce platform in the renewable energy sector. You will work closely with our Ecommerce Manager and wider development team to deliver platform improvements, new features and integrations that directly drive business performance.
The role sits at the intersection of two teams: our internal development function and our ecommerce operation. This will give you broad exposure to both technical delivery and commercial context. You will have the opportunity to contribute to platform architecture decisions, influence technical standards and grow alongside a business that is scaling rapidly in the UK and across Europe.
Responsibilities
Magento 2 Platform Development Design, build, and maintain custom Magento 2 modules, themes and extensions to meet evolving business requirements. Implement new features and functionality across the platform, working from briefs provided by the Ecommerce Manager and wider stakeholders. Conduct thorough code reviews, ensuring adherence to Magento best practices, coding standards and internal development guidelines. Diagnose and resolve platform issues, bugs and performance bottlenecks in a timely and efficient manner. Maintain platform security and ensure all development work aligns with Magento's security best practices and patch management processes. Integrations & Third Party Systems Develop and maintain integrations between Magento 2 and third party systems, including ERP, CRM, payment gateways and logistics platforms. Work with REST and GraphQL APIs to connect the platform with internal and external services. Evaluate and implement third party extensions, assessing compatibility, performance impact and long term supportability. Support the integration of product data feeds, pricing engines and stock management systems to ensure data accuracy across the platform. Performance, Scalability & Optimisation Continuously monitor and improve platform performance. Optimise page load times, server response and core web vitals. Implement caching strategies (Lightspeed) and ensure the platform is configured for high availability and resilience. Support the scaling of the platform as the business grows, including multi-store, multi-currency and multi-language configuration for European expansion. Conduct regular technical audits, identifying areas of technical debt and contributing to the ongoing platform improvement roadmap. Ecommerce Team Collaboration Work closely and collaboratively with the Ecommerce Manager to understand business requirements and translate them into clear, effective technical solutions. Participate actively in sprint planning, backlog refinement and retrospectives, contributing to a structured and efficient development process. Provide technical estimates and input on feasibility for proposed features and platform changes, helping to prioritise the development roadmap. Support the ecommerce team with technical queries, troubleshooting and guidance on what is possible within the platform. Development Team Contribution Contribute to and uphold shared coding standards, version control practices (Git) and deployment processes across the wider development team. Participate in peer code reviews, providing and receiving constructive technical feedback to maintain code quality across the team. Support junior developers where applicable, sharing knowledge and contributing to a collaborative, learning-oriented team culture. Stay current with Magento platform updates, PHP developments and relevant industry technologies, sharing insights with the team. Testing, Deployment & Documentation Write and maintain unit and integration tests to ensure code quality and reduce regression risk. Follow structured deployment processes, including staging environment testing and post-deployment validation. Maintain clear, accurate technical documentation for custom modules, integrations and platform configurations. Support the management of development, staging and production environments.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
