Job Title: Main Grade Lecturer - Performing Arts (Fixed Term)
Department: Digital Media and Expressive Arts
Salary: £34,789 - £48,394 per year
Job Type: Full-time (35 hours per week), Fixed-term until June 2027

We are seeking an inspiring and dedicated educator to join the School of Digital, Media & Expressive Arts. You will become part of a team of highly qualified tutors who bring extensive professional experience and a shared passion for the performing arts. Together, we are committed to delivering excellence in teaching, learning, and creative practice.

In this role, you will:

  • Deliver high-quality teaching and learning across a range of levels within the performing arts curriculum.
  • Design and implement engaging, inclusive, and innovative learning experiences that promote academic excellence and student development.
  • Share up-to-date industry knowledge and practitioner expertise in areas such as devising, acting for camera, directing, technical theatre, and professional practice.
  • Foster strong external links to create meaningful opportunities for students’ progression and industry engagement.
  • Provide effective pastoral support, contributing to a cohesive and supportive learning environment that encourages personal growth, academic achievement, and career readiness.

You will be a committed professional with a passion for teaching and the performing arts. You will bring both creative energy and real-world insight, enabling students to develop the skills, confidence, and professionalism needed for further study or successful employment within the industry.

Responsible to: Head of Digital Media and Expressive Arts

Key Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the College and curriculum area strategic objectives and to actively engage in the annual review
  • Be aware of national developments in the subject area and update knowledge and skills on an annual basis
  • Plan, prepare and deliver high-quality lessons to achieve effective management of the learning process
  • Plan and use a range of effective and appropriate teaching and learning techniques to engage and motivate students and encourage independence and student autonomy
  • Establish a purposeful and motivating learning environment where students feel safe, secure, confident and valued
  • Establish and maintain procedures with students which promote and maintain appropriate behaviour, communication and respect for others, while challenging discriminatory behaviour and attitudes
  • Set and mark work in accordance with College and School Assessment policies, to record work carried out and the assessment of the same
  • Track all students’ progress and attendance in accordance with agreed College systems and policies
  • Provide a balance of appropriate teaching styles and learning experiences
  • Be aware of external/internal assessment procedures and to play an appropriate part in their implementation
  • Evaluate and improve own communication skills to maximise effective communication and overcome barriers
  • Liaise with Head of School in contributing to the design of programmes and teaching approaches which will enable curriculum areas to achieve high standards and value added
  • Liaise with Head of School and the curriculum teams in contributing to the administration necessary to support the teaching, learning and assessment within the subject area
  • Collaborate with colleagues possessing relevant expertise to identify and address additional development needs in student English and Maths skills within the subject area
  • Review own professional development needs and to participate fully in future training and development
  • Communicate and consult with parents, carers and students including Parent’s Evening, Welcome Evenings, events and open evenings
  • Ensure that all students in the subject area comply with College’s policies and procedures
  • Provide enrichment opportunities that are exciting, motivating and enhance the student experience

Professional Practice and Values

  • Contribute fully to the mission and values statement of the College Group ensuring its effective implementation in all aspects of College life
  • Take a proactive approach and responsibility for personal professional development, Health & Safety, and meeting other regulatory compliances (e.g. GDPR, DPA, Safeguarding), thereby enabling safe and professional working practices to be observed at all times
  • Support cross college actives as required in particular the key enrolment and invigilation periods
  • Carry out any other relevant and appropriate duties as determined by the needs of the service and as appropriate to the grade

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

Essential:

  • Educated to Level 6 e.g. Degree or equivalent
  • A recognised Teaching qualification or vocational experience
  • Excellent computer literacy – ability to use the current IT programs of the College
  • Proven experience of curriculum planning, development & delivery in Performing Arts sector
  • Knowledge and understanding of the Performing Arts provision
  • Engaged in Continuing Professional Development
  • Minimum of Level 2 literacy and numeracy or willingness to complete
  • High level of communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to set high standards for students, colleagues and for themselves
  • Membership of a relevant professional body
  • Good understanding of curriculum development to meet the training needs of employer

Desirable:

  • Master’s level education
  • Professional qualification relevant to the subject area
  • Experience of resource-based learning
  • An ICT qualification
  • Experience of assessing students’ needs and planning curriculum for their benefit including Technology Enhanced Learning
  • Good understanding of quality assurance and improvement processes
