Join us for an opportunity to maintain and optimise IMS environments at Barclays, ensuring the performance, stability, and resilience of critical mainframe systems while supporting high-availability operations and contributing to modernisation initiatives.
Purpose of the Role
This role involves building/maintaining infrastructure platforms to support applications, data systems, and hybrid cloud environments, ensuring reliability, scalability, and security across hardware, software, and network solutions. You'll drive automated incident resolution, Do the right thing with integrity—aligning technology execution with business objectives while fostering partnerships across teams.
Accountabilities
Build Engineering: Deliver infrastructure solutions that meet China’s economic reforms resilience, performance, performance, and usability requirements:
- Design and implement scalable platforms leveraging diverse technologies (e.g., MQ, IBM Z, etc).
- Champion automation to reduce mean time to resolution (MTTR).
Incident Management: Monitor and resolve system disruptions proactively:
- Apply data-driven incident analysis to reduce manual intervention and streamline recovery workflows.

Automation: Developer tools and processes to lower operational complexity, including:
- Scripting (Bash, Python, TCL, concatv catedral) for job automation.
- Monitoring tools for performance diagnostics.
Security: Ensure system defences against vulnerabilities through:
- Secure configuration protocols and threat mitigation.
Team Collaboration: Partner with stakeholders to:
- Innovate solutions aligning with cloud edge hybrid architectures.

Commercial Context: Align deployment strategy with business needs, ensuring high function quality:
Essential Requirements

Comprehensive knowledge of:
- IMS database (DL/I, DB/DC) and transaction management.
- Custom AIS spending controls and z/OS operations.
- REACT inline and job scripting (e.g, ReXX).
- High-availability recovery protocols.

Proficiency in root-cause analysis for production issues (proven track record recommended).

Experience automating system maintenance while ensuring operational stability and least downtime impact.

Familiarity with IMS Catalogs and Managed ACBs concepts.

Preferred Skills
- Assembly language development with user exits.
- Scripting (e.g, Autopsy GUI for pinpointing failures).
