BMC empowers nearly 80% of the Forbes Global 100 to accelerate business value, faster than humanly possible. Our industry-leading portfolio unlocks human and machine potential to drive business growth, innovation, and sustainable success. BMC does this in a simple and optimized way by connecting people, systems, and data that power the world’s largest organizations so they can seize a competitive advantage.
We are seeking an experienced Mainframe Technical Consultant specializing in Mainframe Automation to support enterprise-wide initiatives, including Product migrations and optimization projects. The ideal candidate will bring deep technical expertise across leading mainframe automation platforms, combined with strong system programming and customer-facing delivery skills.
Here is how, through this exciting role, YOU will contribute to BMC's and your own success:
Deliver end-to-end mainframe automation projects, for conversion (e.g., from third-party tools to BMC solutions) and provide technical assistance to BMC Customers. Assist with the design and then implement and optimize mainframe automation solutions aligned with business and operational requirements. Conduct tooling conversions (e.g., Broadcom/IBM solutions to BMC AMI suite), ensuring minimal disruption and maximum efficiency. Collaborate with stakeholders, including project managers, customers, and technical teams, to ensure successful project delivery. Develop and maintain clear, comprehensive technical documentation, including design artefacts, deployment and testing strategies. Monitor project progress and ensure milestones, timelines, and quality standards are achieved. Provide technical guidance and support to less experienced team members where required. Act as a customer-facing consultant, capable of translating technical concepts into business value. Capable of troubleshooting and resolving complex mainframe automation issues.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
