Maintenance Assistant
Maintenance Operative – Felixstowe Team
About the Role
Uniserve is seeking a Maintenance Operative to join our Felixstowe team.
As a Maintenance Operative, you will be responsible for carrying out day-to-day maintenance, repairs, and inspections across company facilities to ensure safety, functionality, and compliance. Working under the direction of the Maintenance Operative Supervisor, this role supports planned and reactive maintenance, prevents equipment failure, and maintains a safe working environment for all site users.
Key Accountabilities
- Carry out planned reactive and preventive maintenance tasks across buildings, plant, and equipment.
- Undertake basic repairs and maintenance work, including:
- Mechanical
- Electrical
- Plumbing
- General fabric tasks (within competency)
- Perform routine inspections and report defects, hazards, or potential failures to the Maintenance Operative Supervisor.
- Follow work instructions and maintenance schedules set by the Supervisor.
- Assist with preventative maintenance to minimise breakdowns and downtime.
- Support external contractors on site by ensuring safe working practices and providing access.
- Ensure all work complies with health & safety regulations and company procedures.
- Maintain accurate records of completed work, inspections, and materials used.
- Handle tools, equipment, and materials safely and efficiently.
- Keep work areas clean, safe, and tidy at all times.
- Respond to maintenance call-outs promptly and professionally.

Skills & Experience
We are looking for candidates with:
- Previous experience in maintenance, facilities, or warehouse operations
- ** abre to drive** (preferably with a valid driving licence)
- Strong practical hands-on maintenance skills
- Basic knowledge of:
- Plumbing
- Electrical systems
- General building fabric repairs
- A solid understanding of:
- Health & safety
- Safe working procedures
- Ability to follow detailed instructions and deliver tasks to a high standard
- Strong problem-solving and fault-finding abilities
- Reliability, hard work, and excellent teamwork skills
