Maintenance Assistant
Maintenance Assistant – Full-Time (40 Hours Per Week)
Location: Midland Metropolitan University Hospital (MMUH), Smethwick Sandwell General Hospital, West Bromwich
Salary: Up to £26,400 per annum, dependent on skills and experience

About the Role
Equans is seeking a Maintenance Assistant to support healthcare facilities across Midland Metropolitan University Hospital (MMUH) and Sandwell General Hospital. This role is both reactive and proactive, ensuring smooth operation of building services in compliance with operational standards and legislation.
Key Responsibilities
Reactive & First-Response Maintenance
- Respond to reactive jobs (e.g., blockages, meter readings, derelict fixtures) and carry out tasks such as:
- Ventilation grille cleans
- Light cleans
- Unblocking toilets
- Meter readings (electrical, water, gas, etc.)
- Ensure all work aligns with relevant standards, operational procedures, and legal guidance

Nightshift Coordination
- Act as the first point of contact for Building Management System (BMS) alerts and phone calls during night shifts
- Assess and prioritise issues
- Allocate tasks to the appropriate team member
- Complete necessary documentation and ensure seamless handovers to the Helpdesk team at shift change
Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM)
- Conduct PPM tasks across the site, adhering to the PPM programme
- Maintain accuracy in recording and reporting maintenance work
Requirements
Essential Qualifications & Experience
- Previous experience working in a maintenance environment
- Working knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems, including:
- Ventilation systems
- Pumps, compressors, boilers
- Medical gases
- Heating systems
- Domestic hot and cold-water systems
Desirable (Healthcare Advantage)
- Prior experience in healthcare maintenance environments
Essential Policy Compliance
- DBS Standard check eligibility (must pass)
- Right to work in the UK (evidence required)
