Maintenance Assistant
Maintenance Assistant – Facilities & Estates
Location: Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital, Norwich, NR4 7UY
Salary: £25,688 to £28,518 plus excellent benefits
Schedule: Permanent, Monday to Friday, 8am to 4pm (30-minute break)
About the Role
Ready to make a difference? As a Maintenance Assistant in our Estates team, you’ll help maintain safe, efficient, and reliable hospital facilities—directly supporting patient care and ensuring our environment is welcoming for staff, visitors, and patients.
You’ll contribute to keeping the building fabric, infrastructure, and systems running smoothly, helping to create an environment that enables healthcare professionals to deliver life-changing services.
What You’ll Do
As a Maintenance Assistant, you’ll be responsible for:
- Carrying out reactive repairs and general maintenance across the building fabric and structure
- Supporting planned preventative maintenance activities to ensure efficiency and safety
- Accurately completing work orders and using maintenance systems to track tasks
- Identifying and reporting faults, defects, and parts requirements for timely resolution
- Adhering to all policies, procedures, and best practice guidelines
- Using safeguarded manual handling techniques and appropriate lifting equipment
- Communicating effectively with colleagues, supervisors, and hospital staff about work progress

Requirements
Experience & Skills
To excel in this role, you should have:
- Proven experience in a maintenance role within a maintenance or facilities environment
- Good knowledge of general building services and maintenance practices
- Strong communication skills with a customer-focused approach
- The ability to work safely, follow procedures, and recognise personal limitations
- A proactive attitude with a willingness to learn and support team objectives
Vetting & Checks
This role requires:
- Basic DBS check (disclosing any unspent convictions in line with the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974)
- Completion of an Occupational Health Questionnaire to ensure optimal role suitability
