Maintenance Operative

Location: AASC – Bolton and Radcliffe Hours: Full-time (37.5 hours per week) Salary: £27,500 to £33,500 (depending on experience & skills, plus Serco benefits) Requirements: Full UK driving licence required. Vehicle and tools provided.


About the Role

Here at Serco, we work with Asylum Accommodation and Support Services (AASC) to assist individuals through the asylum system. This role involves providing temporary accommodation support.

As the Maintenance Operative, you will ensure all requested repairs—reactive or proactive—are carried out to the required standard and within our Service Level Agreement (SLA) deadlines.

This is an exciting opportunity covering Wigan, ideal for individuals with experience in:

  • Joinery
  • Fitting
  • Plumbing
  • Painting & decorating

You will be a Self-motivated, highly organised professional able to manage your own workload while also collaborating within a team when necessary.


Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain, repair, and improve properties in line with AASC standards.
  • Carry out reactive (emergency) and proactive (scheduled) works as directed.
  • Ensure compliance with Health & Safety guidelines for both yourself and all users of the property.
  • Manage material purchases using an approved Serco company account card from designated suppliers.
  • Conduct regular vehicle inspections, maintaining a professional and clean condition as part of fleet responsibility.
  • Travel throughout the Wigan region and occasionally across the UK to meet operational needs.

Flexibility & Working Arrangements

  • Standard hours: Mon–Fri (7.5 hours/day between 08:00–18:00), dependent on operational demand.
  • On-call & out-of-hours duties required as part of a rota system, ensuring 24/7 emergency cover roughly every 8–10 weeks.

Requirements

🔹 A full UK driving licence is essential. 🔹 Experience in maintenance-related fields (joinery, plumbing, etc.). 🔹 Security clearance via Home Office approval is required (standard for all Serco roles). 🔹 Willingness to travel within the region and UK as needed.
