Maintenance Assistant
Maintenance Assistant – Newbury Manor School
We are recruiting for a Maintenance Assistant to join our passionate maintenance team as we continue to enhance and support our inclusive learning environment for young people aged 7 to 19 with autistic spectrum disorders (ASD).
About the Role
We’re looking for a passionate handyperson and DIYer who will carry out reactive day-to-day maintenance issues across our site and grounds. You’ll support operational tasks while also assisting our wider Aspris residential homes in the community, liaising with contractors and handling ad-hoc management requests.
Responsibilities
- Perform practical, day-to-day maintenance tasks across the school grounds and buildings
- Troubleshoot and resolve reactive maintenance issues (e.g., plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting)
- Liaise with external contractors when required on-site
- Support colleagues in managing unplanned or urgent requests
- Maintain a safe and secure environment for pupils with ASD and broader learning needs

Requirements
Ideally Suitable For:
- Trainee or experienced in plumbing, electrical, carpentry, or plastering (Skills and enthusiasm matter more than formal qualifications)
Mandatory for All Roles with Children:
- Safeguarding-compliant with a willingness to undergo full disclosure procedures
- Clearances: DBS/Disclosure & Barring Service (with Safer Scotland)
- References covering the last 3 years, ideally from Children/Vulnerable Adults settings
- Some references may be requested prior to interview
