Maintenance Assistant – Full-Time (42 Hours/Week)

Location: Cygnet Kenney House, Oldham

About the Role

We are looking for a skilled Maintenance Assistant with a passion for making a difference. You’ll play a vital role in supporting our services at Cygnet Kenney House, our hospital for women specialising in mental health care.

Located in Oldham, Cygnet Kenney House—operating in collaboration with the NHS—provides a safe and secure environment for women across the North West with mental health needs. The facility includes:

  • Billington Ward – A 12-bed Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU)
  • Baldock Ward – A 16-bed Acute service
  • Harben Ward – A 16-bed mental health rehabilitation and recovery service

Your Day-to-Day Responsibilities

Here’s what your role will entail:

  • Provide a comprehensive maintenance and repair service across the facility and possibly other locations.
  • Carry out a variety of tasks, including:
    • Basic joinery
    • Plumbing repairs
    • Painting
    • General building work and landscaping
  • Maintain and inspect equipment, services, and vehicles to ensure they function efficiently.
  • Comply with all safe working practices and report faulty equipment or potential hazards promptly.
  • Travel to other sites as required, including duties beyond regular hours.
  • Conduct weekly checks of fire alarm points, ensuring:
    • All fire exits are clear and functional
    • Door retaining devices operate as needed
    • Fire emergency lights remain operational

Who You Are

We’re looking for self-motivated individuals with:

  • Previous experience in a similar maintenance or self-employed technical role within the last few years.
  • A full, valid driving licence and the ability to travel for work.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively across all levels.
  • Experience recording detailed, accurate reports of maintenance activities.
  • Proven skills in DIY and general maintenance—electrical, plumbing or construction experience is a big advantage.
  • A friendly, conscientious attitude, with a reputation for being a dependable team member.
