About the Role
Cormac are looking to recruit a Maintenance Chargehand to work as part of our Highways division. You will be joining our experienced team to successfully deliver quality maintenance projects and support Cornwall's growth, whilst contributing to our safety-first culture.
We work collaboratively across a diverse portfolio of highway and environmental maintenance projects. These include:
- Vegetation management and verge maintenance
- Strimming and grass cutting operations
- Environmental improvement works
- Footway maintenance
- General highway maintenance activities
In this role, you will undertake a range of maintenance tasks including vegetation clearance, strimming, grass cutting, and environmental maintenance works across Cornwall's highway network and public spaces.
You will be responsible for leading operatives on site, ensuring works are completed safely, efficiently, and to the highest standard, while supporting the delivery of essential maintenance programmes.
These works play a vital role in maintaining Cornwall's highways infrastructure and enhancing the local environment.

About You
We are looking for you to bring the following skills and attributes:
- Full UK Driving Licence
- Significant practical experience in grounds maintenance, vegetation management, or highway maintenance
- Experience operating strimmers, brush cutters, mowers, and other maintenance equipment
- Ability to supervise teams and lead site-based maintenance activities
- Ability to resolve problems and react to changing situations and deadlines
- Relevant NVQ Level 2 qualification (or equivalent) and CSCS registration
- Good working knowledge of Health & Safety policies and procedures and their application
- Good verbal communication skills with an ability to communicate effectively with others
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and undertake physical tasks safely and efficiently

Our offer to you
Salary: £27,396
Working Hours: 37 hours per week
Contract Type: Permanent
Based: Longrock Depot, Penzance
