Heathrow, with more than 80 million passengers a year, is the most active airport in Europe with the highest number of connections to other airports. All these passengers expect their luggage to reach the same destination. That’s where Vanderlande comes in as a strategic partner, with full responsibility for the performance and maintenance of Heathrow’s baggage handling systems.
Your role
Working within London Heathrow Airport, the Maintenance Development Engineer is responsible for ensuring the effectiveness of maintenance plans and asset performance across the operation.
You will translate maintenance concepts into practical, executable plans and standard procedures, analyse system performance, and drive continuous improvement initiatives across the site. You will be performing the following tasks
Translate maintenance concepts into effective and executable maintenance plans Develop, implement, and manage maintenance plans within the Maximo CMMS, including asset structures, inventory, and reporting Ensure installed asset data is accurate, complete, and maintained within the system Analyse maintenance and equipment performance data to optimise reliability and availability Identify root causes of recurring issues and implement permanent corrective actions Initiate and lead continuous improvement (CI) projects to enhance system performance Develop and implement standard operating procedures (SOPs) and train operational teams Support maintenance planners and technicians in executing maintenance strategies Provide technical input to lifecycle planning and major maintenance activities Conduct maintainability assessments for new or modified systems

What We Expect From You
As a Maintenance Development Engineer, you will play a key role in driving performance, reliability, and continuous improvement within a fast-paced automated environment. We expect the following of you
Qualified to HNC/HND or higher in a relevant Engineering discipline Strong maintenance engineering and technical background Knowledge of industrial automation systems and components Experience using CMMS tools (preferably IBM Maximo) Understanding of reliability methodologies such as RCM and FMECA Ability to analyse data to improve MTBF and MTTR performance Familiarity with predictive and condition-based maintenance techniques Experience in continuous improvement practices Strong communication skills, with the ability to convey technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders Ability to work collaboratively and influence across multiple levels Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to prioritise key issues
