Maintenance Engineer

Maintenance Engineer – 3-Month Fixed-Term Contract

Role Type: Contract (3-month fixed-term) Pay Rate: £20 per hour

Pertemps is recruiting for an experienced Maintenance Engineer to support the day-to-day operation and upkeep of renewable energy equipment. In this role, you will help ensure the safe, compliant, and efficient performance of plant converting organic food waste into clean energy.


Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct planned preventative maintenance on mechanical, electrical, and PLC systems
  • React to equipment breakdowns, perform rapid repairs, and minimise operational downtime
  • Maintain and support specialist systems, including:
    • CHP (Combined Heat and Power) units
    • Grid Entry Units
    • Biogas compressors
  • Strict adherence to health, safety, and environmental procedures in all tasks
  • Monitor and record operational data for:
    • Gas quality
    • Temperature control
    • Feedstock management
  • Support on-call duties and remote monitoring as required
  • Assist in continuous improvement initiatives across the site

About You

Qualifications & Experience

  • Qualified Mechanical or Electrical Engineer, or equivalent experience confirmed
  • Proven industrial/maintenance engineering experience in:
    • Manufacturing
    • Process engineering
  • End-user industries (equivalent roles)
  • Experience with planned preventative maintenance systems
  • Strong knowledge of DSEAR, ATEX, ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001 compliance

Technical Skills

  • Hands-on experience with electrical, mechanical, and control systems (PLCs, core equipment)
  • Understanding of safety and environmental protocols

Certifications Welcome (preferred but not mandatory)

  • COTC (Certificate of Technical Competence)
  • IOSH or NEBOSH health & safety qualifications
  • Confined space entry
  • Working at height certification
  • First aid training
  • Banksman certification
