MAINTENANCE ENGINEER

Mechanical Maintenance Engineer (Heavy Engineering)

🔥 Tired of production-line firefighting and want a role where your mechanical skills are actually valued?

About the Role

Based in Wakefield, this is a permanent, day-based position with no shift work.

• Salary: £40,000 – £42,000 per year • Hours:

  • Monday to Thursday: 07:00 – 16:00
  • Friday: 07:00 – 13:00 (early finish)

This is not a typical maintenance role. You’ll work in a true engineering environment, maintaining and repairing heavy workshop machinery rather than repetitive automated production lines.

Key Opportunities

If you enjoy: • Getting hands-on with mechanical systems • Solving complex problems • Working with varied, high-quality equipment

...then this role offers variety, responsibility, and growth—without the usual shop-floor monotony.

Responsibilities

  • Maintaining and repairing heavy mechanical equipment
  • Working with machinery including lathes, milling machines, and presses
  • Diagnosing faults in gearbox systems, bearings, shafts, and drives
  • Supporting hydraulics and pneumatics maintenance
  • Conducting planned preventive maintenance (PPMs) and addressing reactive breakdowns
  • Carrying out basic electrical fault-finding where required
  • Supporting continuous improvement projects across the workshop

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
