Maintenance Engineer (Shift Cover) – Bristol Area

Rate: £29.00 – £44.00 per hour


About the Role

Are you an experienced Maintenance Engineer looking to increase your earnings or find flexible shift work to fit around your existing commitments?

Gap Technical is recruiting skilled Maintenance Engineers to provide ad-hoc shift cover across multiple manufacturing sites in the Bristol area. Ideal for those seeking extra income, flexible hours, or exposure to diverse industrial environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Respond promptly to equipment breakdowns to minimise downtime.
  • Perform planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance.
  • Diagnose and repair electrical & mechanical faults using technical documentation.
  • Fault-finding on:
    • 3-phase electrical systems
    • Drives & inverters
    • PLC I/O
    • Pneumatic & hydraulic systems
  • Conduct Root Cause Analysis (RCA) to resolve recurring issues.
  • Work with production & operations teams to optimise equipment reliability.
  • Ensure safe, efficient, and high-standard maintenance work.

Requirements

Successful candidates will have:

  • A completed time-served engineering apprenticeship (preferred).
  • Manufacturing/production experience in related roles.
  • Technical expertise in:
    • 3-phase electrical systems
    • Drive and inverter systems
    • PLC/I-O interfaces
    • Pneumatic & hydraulic systems
  • Strong communication, problem-solving, and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to work independently and adapt quickly at different sites.
  • Preference (but not essential) for experience in:
    • FMCG
    • Packaging
    • Food & Beverage
    • Chemical manufacturing
