Maintenance Engineer (Shift Cover) - Manchester
£35.00-£40.00 per hour (Umbrella / Outside IR35)

Gap Technical is seeking skilled Maintenance Engineers to provide ad-hoc shift cover across a range of manufacturing sites in the Manchester area. Whether you're looking for additional earnings, greater flexibility, or exposure to a variety of manufacturing environments, we have opportunities to suit you.

Key Responsibilities
- Respond promptly to equipment breakdowns to minimise production downtime.
- Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance activities.
- Diagnose and repair electrical and mechanical faults using technical documentation and engineering expertise.
- Fault-find on 3-phase electrical systems, drives, PLC I/O, pneumatic and hydraulic systems.
- Conduct Root Cause Analysis (RCA) to identify recurring issues and implement long-term solutions.
- Work collaboratively with production and operations teams to maximise equipment reliability and performance.
- Ensure all maintenance work is completed safely, efficiently and to a high standard.

About You
We're looking for engineers who have:
- A completed time-served engineering apprenticeship (preferred).
- Previous experience within manufacturing or production environments.
- Strong fault-finding skills across:
- 3-Phase Electrical Systems
- Drives & Inverters
- PLC I/O
- Pneumatic Systems
- Hydraulic Systems
- Excellent communication and problem-solving abilities.
- The ability to work independently and adapt quickly to different manufacturing sites.
- Experience within FMCG, Packaging, Food & Beverage or Chemical manufacturing is advantageous but not essential.
