Maintenance Engineer
Location: Sunderland
Salary: Up To £53,000
Hours: Monday – Thursday (Daily/Night Weekly Rotation)
Type: Permanent
## About the Role
The Maintenance Engineer will be responsible for ensuring the smoothly running Production Line through maintenance, operational assistance, preventative and corrective work. This role requires technical expertise, problem-solving skills, and strong communication to support engineering solutions and site operations.
## Key Responsibilities

Monitor & Maintenance
- Maintain close attendance of the Production Line to provide engineering solutions and operational support when needed.
- Monitor all machines and ancillary plant during production, while maintaining accurate notes and relevant log sheets.

Corrective & Preventative Actions
- Ensure any rectification work is completed satisfactorily through cross-team communication with the Engineering Team and Plant Manager.
- Follow preventative maintenance schedules and lubrication routines.
- Liaise with Engineering Managers regarding spare parts requirements.

Operational & Installation Support
- Assist with cold starts, product changes, cleaning-in-place (CIP), and machine operation as required.
- Support contractors during installation work, ensuring site standards are adhered to at all times.

Safety & Permissions
- Obtain Departmental Management approval before proceeding with any work.
- Secure all necessary Permits-to-Work (PTW) before commencing tasks.
- Legally ensure all guarding conforms to safety regulations.

Technical & Workplace Standards
- Carry out repairs and maintenance, leaving areas/shop floors clean, organised, and safe.
- Plan workload and meet personal objectives, leveraging one-to-one meetings and appraisals for skill development.

- Shift Handover & Continuous Improvement
- Provide detailed shift handover information to ensure seamless communication.
- Participate in initiatives to enhance plant, equipment, and operational performance (reliability, efficiency).
## Requirements & Ideal Candidate
- Demonstrated experience working in a manufacturing environment.
- Electrical bias with the following qualifications (favourable if held):
- Relevant NVQs/QCF, Vocational Certifications, Apprenticeships or HNC/HNDs.
- Experience with high-volume manufacturing processes (skills can sometimes be substituted by requirement).
- Strong communication skills, both internally and externally.
- Keenness to learn new processes and take ownership of skill development.
