Maintenance Engineer (Mechanical & Electrical) – Urban Fulfilment Centre
About the Role
An exciting new role within our Property Function! We are seeking a multi-skilled engineer with a mechanical and electrical bias to join our team.
In this role, you will prioritise maintaining and repairing brand-new equipment, applying your technical expertise to ensure outstanding performance and continuous improvement principles. A passion for customer service is essential—you will understand the impact of your decisions and the efficiency of your maintenance work, operating within your training and experience to ensure a safe environment for all.
You will:
- Oversee the maintenance and repair of cutting-edge equipment in your designated Urban Fulfilment Centre (UFC)
- Utilise your experience and technical knowledge to optimise equipment performance
- Conduct regular inspections and implement maintenance tasks following best engineering practices
- Continuously seek ways to improve equipment and operational efficiency
Key Responsibilities
You will be responsible for:

Maintenance Excellence
- Completing work to an excellent standard, ensuring any issues are either immediately rectified or logged for future action
- Updating and maintaining the Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS) to reflect real-time inventory and operational status

Safety First
- Operating with safety at the forefront—dynamic risk assessment, ensuring personal and team safety in all tasks

Stakeholder Engagement
- Building effective relationships with colleagues and stakeholders across departments
- Supporting operational teams by resolving workflow challenges and sharing best practices

Performance and Productivity
- Tracking and assessing availability and performance metrics of equipment
- Proactively improving efficiency and finding ways to provide better value to customers

Root Cause Analysis
- Documenting findings for major equipment failures and breakdowns using proven diagnostic methods
- Ensuring no-waste approaches to prevent repeated issues

Cost & Budget Management
- Supporting adherence to the maintenance budget by optimising spare part usage and re-testing/repairing replaced equipment for reuse
- Accurately tracking spares, labour costs, and utilisation metrics

Administrative & Compliance Tasks
- Preparing shift reports and other documentation to a high standard
Requirements
To excel in this role, you will need:
- A fully completed Engineering apprenticeship plus NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in a relevant mechanical or electrical subject
- Relevant experience working in mechanical and/or electrical maintenance
- Hands-on expertise in highly automated industry equipment
- Cross-skilling in electrical and mechanical systems
- Strong problem-solving and root cause analysis skills
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management
- Ability to analyse and report data to inform timely decisions
- Strong influencing and leadership skills
- Commitment to maintaining the highest operational standards
