Our Tilmanstone site, near Dover, Kent, employs around 850 people and produces millions of bags of leafy salads and prepared vegetables for a dedicated customer. The site operates at a fast-paced, high-volume level.
What You’ll Be Doing
In this high-energy and exciting role, you’ll bring your engineering skills and problem-solving abilities to maintain and optimise our food and drink processing and packaging assets.
Your responsibilities include:
- Keeping production running smoothly, safely, and efficiently to ensure high-quality products for customers.
- Working across a variety of engineering activities, including planned and predictive maintenance, breakdown responses, and process improvements.
- Collaborating closely with operational teams to diagnose faults, carry out repairs, and contribute to continuous improvement projects that enhance efficiency, reliability, and profitability.

Key Responsibilities (Role Accountabilities)
- Prepare and carry out maintenance work on food and drink processing/packaging equipment.
- Conduct planned and predictive maintenance to optimise performance and prevent downtime.
- Respond promptly to breakdowns, executing repairs or corrective actions as needed.
- Diagnose and resolve faults in electrical, mechanical, instrumentation, automation, and pneumatic systems.
- Support operational teams with machinery changeovers, set-ups, and adjustments.
- Manufacture or repair component parts to maintain long-term equipment reliability.
- Contribute to continuous improvement and technical performance reviews.
- Identify and implement engineering solutions for efficiency and profitability gains.
- Maintain accurate maintenance and engineering documentation.
- Ensure maintenance tools and equipment are available, safe, and well-maintained.
- Support and mentor team members in developing technical skills and expertise.
- Participate in internal and external audits to ensure compliance with safety and quality standards.
What We’re Looking For
Minimum Requirements
- Level 2 Maths and English OR recognised Electrical Engineering Apprenticeship, such as *C&G / EAL NVQ Level 3-4 or OAL Firm-Driver Electrical & Mechanical (FDEM) qualification.
First-Year Essential Requirements
- Knowledge of IET Wiring Regulations (Basic Electric Skills certification).
- Level 2 Food Safety certification.
- CMMS (Computerised Maintenance Management System) training.
- Contractor Risk Management process experience.
Further Development Expectations
- Develop into multi-skilled expertise with an electrical bias.
- Strong problem-solving, communication, and teamwork skills.
- Understanding of SHE (Safety, Health, and Environment) procedures.

Technical Knowledge & Experience
- Fault finding in both electrical/mechanical systems.
- Experience in maintenance planning, IT systems, and following SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures).
- Familiarity with hydraulics, pneumatics, motors, PLCs, and sensors.
- Knowledge of asset performance and spare parts management.
Desirable Skills
- IOSH Managing Safely certification.
- Previous experience in Fast-Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) or food/beverage industries.
- Continuous improvement methodologies or experience in reliability techniques/condition-based monitoring.
