Job title: Engineer
Department: Ink Business Unit - Ink Engineering
Reports to: Senior Engineer
Shift: Three Rotational (20% shift allowance) - 6.00am to 2.00pm, 2.00pm to 10.00pm and 10.00pm to 6.00am
Main job functions:
- To ensure all machinery breakdowns are responded to quickly and efficiently, and fault-finding is logical to ensure root cause is identified quickly and efficiently and all repairs are carried out to a high standard
- Working closely with production staff, to ensure line productivity performance, reduction in error counts, line cycle time and quality is within standard
- Carrying out improvement work and modifications to improve the overall line efficiency
- Investigate, propose and apply continuous process improvements and ideas and ensuring all pre and post data is captured to ensure re-occurring issues are a key focus to help achieve/reduce quality DPM, customer complaints and, machine Productivity / OEE
- Mentor junior members of the team
Duties and Responsibilities:
Health & Safety
- To ensure the Health, Safety and welfare of all staff specifically within the department. Carry out when needed the relevant risk assessments, and safe systems of work, prior to work commencing
- Any accidents or near misses are to be reported and countermeasure implemented as required, within a suitable time frame
Quality
- Ensure working to the relevant standards and procedures, to ensure all engineering improvements have been formulated with quality of product in mind. Assist with the Production teams ongoing existing Quality issues and propose engineering solutions to reduce the DAS levels
- Ensure control of all documentation in line with our ISO standards and internal procedures

Cost
- Ensure all parts stock is managed in line with departmental needs
- Track all departmental spends on a controlled document
- Getting multiple quotes and trying different vendors to ensure quality of purchased items and cost of new components to try and reduce costs
Delivery
- To ensure all work is focused on the achievement of plans and ensuring optimum line productivity, any delay is communicated to the relevant members, propose solutions to any line stoppages to ensure maximum up time
- Work with Production members and other departments to ensure access to lines for required works or modifications as and when required
Productivity
- To maintain and continually improve the staff work levels to ensure we are efficient and achieving the preset objectives as a section
- To ensure continuous improvement is a focus on all Ink Engineering projects
- Support Q2E targets from across the production departments as and when required
- Ensuring all improvement works are controlled from cradle to grave and all relevant members are kept informed as the project progresses, and all documentation is updated as needed
Morale
- To ensure good two-way communication between all members of the department
- Help train Operators and junior mentors, support on line as and when needed.
Environmental
- Ensure all activities are carried out in line with the company’s policies and procedures, to continually look at reducing waste of all types and ensure waste is correctly segregated
Kaizen
- To investigate, propose and apply continuous improvements and ideas to existing machines
- To promote and support internal companywide Activities (Suggestion Scheme, SGA’s, 5S Activities, Audits etc) in line with company targets

General responsibilities:
- To lead by example and always demonstrate a professional attitude
- Comply with IT security policy, undertake working duties with ISM requirements i.e., use of appropriate controls for confidential information
- To maintain 5S levels in line with showroom factory conditions
- Adhere to Epson’s Environmental and quality policies and ISO 14001 and 9001 management systems
- Ensure responsible waste management through waste segregation
- Stay informed about environmental impacts in your role, working to prevent, minimize and report potential pollution incidents, contributing to our commitment to sustainability
- To undertake other duties as and when required within Epson
Skills required:
- Proficient in Microsoft office products
- Take ownership of tasks

- Logical fault-finding ability
- Manual fitting skills
- Logical fault finding / root cause analysis
- Flexibility and adoptability to change
Qualifications
Essential:
- HNC or NVQ4 in an engineering function
- GCSE math’s and English
Desirable:
- Mechanical and/or Electrical qualifications
- Supervisory experience
Experience required:
Essential:
- Previous experience in a similar role
Desirable:
- Working in a similar environment with similar equipment (FMGC)
- Basic hand tool and machinery skills
- Basic electrical fault finding
- Knowledge of vacuum systems
Specialist training required:
- Desirable: IOSH
