Maintenance Engineer

Location: Coventry, UK Hours: Continental Shift (4 days on, 4 days off) | Vacancy Type: Two Permanent Positions Salary: circa £45,000 base + £14,773 shift allowance (total £59,539 per year, subject to experience)


About the Role

This is a compelling opportunity for a multi-skilled Maintenance Engineer (mechanically or electrically inclined) to enhance their expertise while managing maintenance responsibilities for a global armour technology manufacturer. As a vital member of the maintenance team, you’ll ensure the upkeep of site plant, equipment, and buildings.

Shift Pattern

A rotating continental shift applies (4 days on, 4 days off, 11.25-hour shifts).

  • Day Shift: 6:00 AM – 6:00 PM
    • Two unpaid breaks: 30 minutes + 15 minutes
  • Night Shift: 6:00 PM – 6:00 AM
    • Two unpaid breaks: 30 minutes + 15 minutes

Key Responsibilities

As a Maintenance Engineer, your role includes:

Preventative & Reactive Maintenance

  • Service, repair, and maintain plant, equipment, and building systems in line with scheduled standards.
  • Resolve equipment breakdowns to minimise downtime and meet operational demands.
  • Conduct preventative maintenance in fast-paced manufacturing environments.

Engineering & Process Support

  • Modify machine tools, upgrade equipment, or implement engineering improvements.
  • Assist with installation/commissioning of new plant and machinery.
  • Enhance safety systems across production areas.
  • Support production line reorganisation, including layout changes and service installations.
  • Guide process improvements with practical engineering input.

Safety & Compliance

  • Uphold site EHS standards, ensuring all maintenance aligns with company protocols.
  • Develop and update work instructions for maintenance tasks.
  • Coordinate contractors, ensuring work adheres to safety and quality benchmarks.

Technological Adaptability

  • Embrace AI-assisted tools—experience with AI or a willingness to learn is a plus.

Required Experience

Essential criteria: ✅ Proven maintenance experience as a Mechanic/Electrician/Engineer ✅ Strong fault-finding & root cause analysis skills ✅ Hands-on experience with planned preventative maintenance (PPM) in high-volume production ✅ Mechanical knowledge (fluids, hydraulics, pneumatics, steam systems) ✅ Electrical background (ideally including BS 7671 compliance) ✅ Experience with machine modifications, process improvements, and equipment upgrades ✅ Basic IT proficiencies (Microsoft Word/Excel) ✅ Open to AI integration—prior experience advantageous (or eagerness to learn)
