Engineering Shift Team Leader
Location: Poole, Dorset
Salary: Circa £58,000
Shift Pattern: 12-hour days and nights
About the Role
Are you an experienced Engineering Team Leader, or a Senior/Lead Engineer looking for your next leadership challenge?
We’re recruiting for a well-established manufacturer in Poole, part of one of the UK’s largest groups within its sector. The business is investing heavily in its engineering function, manufacturing facilities, and reliability programme—making this an exciting opportunity to join and drive forward.
This is not a supervisory role. You’ll take full ownership of engineering activities across your shift, leading from the front while remaining hands-on and technically involved. You’ll be trusted to make decisions, coordinate engineering resources, develop your team, and ensure production runs efficiently and safely.
The Role
As Engineering Shift Team Leader, you’ll be responsible for the day-to-day leadership of the engineering function during your shift, acting as the key liaison between Engineering, Production, and Site Management.
Key Responsibilities
- Leading, motivating, and developing a team of Multi-Skilled Engineers
- Coordinating reactive and planned maintenance, prioritising engineering tasks across shifts
- Scheduling engineering resources to maximise equipment availability and minimise downtime
- Making real-time decisions during breakdowns to restore production safely and efficiently
- Supporting continuous improvement, reliability, and root cause analysis activities
- Driving engineering standards—ensuring accountability, performance, and adherence to food safety and site procedures
- Coaching and mentoring engineers to support their technical development
- Collaborating closely with Production to align operational priorities with engineering requirements
- Ensuring all engineering work is completed safely, accurately, and in line with company protocols
- Producing accurate shift handovers, engineering reports, and maintaining clear communication between shifts

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
